THE PORT RECEIVES NAMEPA’S 2016 ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AWARD

10/28/2016

QUÉBEC, October 28, 2016 – The Québec Port Authority (QPA) received the “2016 Marine Environment Protection Award for Ports” from the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA), which held its annual conference yesterday in New York. The QPA is very proud of this honour, the second of its kind in 2016 along with the “Excellence and leadership” level received from Green Marine in May.

This award follows the implementation of the Port of Québec’s first-ever development action plan. The plan, which covered the years 2014 and 2015, had first undergone a consultation process and a benchmarking exercise on industry best practices, and focused on three main objectives:

• To be recognized by the community for exemplary management of its territory
• To constantly improve its environmental performance everywhere in the Port of Québec
• To develop and maintain a port-city relationship that is respectful of the community

“At the QPA, we have invested a lot of effort into integrating sustainable development principles, and we are very proud of our achievements. I accept this award on behalf of the Port team, who has done a remarkable job implementing our sustainable development vision for the future of our organization. We are very proud of the results achieved through this action plan that has earned us awards from two environmental organizations this year,” said Mario Girard, President and CEO of the QPA.
