PORT OF QUÉBEC PROVIDES $2 MILLION IN SUPPORT TO JUVÉNAT NOTRE-DAME FOR A NEW WATERFRONT PARK IN LÉVIS
Québec City, September 2, 2026 — The Port of Québec has announced $2 million in support for Juvénat Notre-Dame’s development of a waterfront park in Lévis, in line with its objectives to protect the environment on its property and make the river more accessible.
As the owner of the waterfront lots around the school, the Port of Québec has naturally been involved with this community-building project to make the space more appealing and accessible. The project involves building a one-kilometre promenade around the park’s edges, a public plaza, and an observation deck, as well as efforts to restore the riverbank and create fish habitats. The park is expected to open to the public in the summer of 2027.
Our partnership with Juvénat Notre-Dame stems from a shared desire to help citizens enjoy this incredible slice of nature. By supporting this project, the Port of Québec is deepening its commitment to the community and to enhancing the waterfront. This marks the first investment of this magnitude made by the Port outside its territory.
We are particularly proud of the partnership announced today with the Port of Québec, and even more pleased that our project aligns so closely with its environmental vision and commitment to protecting ecosystems. Not only is the announced contribution substantial, but when combined with the support provided by the City of Lévis, the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changeemnts climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs, le Ministère de l’Éducation, and the partners of our major fundraising campaign, it enables us to secure the full funding required to carry out the shoreline rehabilitation work and the development of the riverside promenade. We are truly excited about this project, as it will benefit both our students and the entire Lévis community. Preserving biodiversity
This project to develop a waterfront park aligns with the Port of Québec’s infrastructure modernization plan, announced in November 2025, and speaks to its commitment to sustainable development.
The financial contribution will allow a concrete retaining wall to be removed so that the riverbank can be restored to its natural state. This work, along with the removal of a portion of the land, will create 2,700 m2 of fish habitat—the equivalent of two Olympic-sized swimming pools—which in turn will support the restoration of riparian ecosystems and the improvement of biodiversity in the area.
