Walk, run, and get moving through the Port!
Québec City, June 12, 2026 — The Port of Québec is announcing the Port of Québec Active Challenge, a unique, inclusive community event on Saturday, May 15, 2027. The Challenge is open to everyone, giving participants of all fitness levels the exclusive chance to walk, run, and get moving through the Port’s facilities during a fun and motivational event.
With the Port of Québec Active Challenge, we wanted to open our doors wide and invite the community to get to know our port even better. The event’s goal is clear: get as many people moving as possible by recognizing achievements, healthy habits, and citizen mobilization, yes, but above all, by celebrating participation,” explains Port of Québec CEO Olga Farman.
Inclusion and movement first
On this occasion, the Port of Québec will be opening its port facilities to the public for one day only. The event will offer a number of walking and running routes through the Port, along with plenty of other activities to get people moving and give them a behind-the-scenes look at one of Canada’s largest ports.
The first edition of this event is also another chance to rally the Port of Québec’s partners, much like the Family Maritime Festival, which is part of the Espaces portuaires program. The fifth and last edition of that event is set to be held on August 29; it will be replaced by the Port of Québec Active Challenge starting in 2027.
Registration opens in Fall 2026
Online registration will be open to the general public and people working at the Port as of this fall. Details about the event—including the fees, routes, and program—will be shared at the same time. Proceeds from the event will be donated to VITAM in support of sustainable health research.
Announcement at a luncheon led by Dr. Jean-Pierre Després
The event was announced at a luncheon led by Dr. Jean-Pierre Després, the scientific director of the VITAM sustainable health research centre, which focused on his book La révolution active : de la gestion de la maladie à la promotion de la santé. The luncheon, organized by the Port of Québec, also rallied regional port partners around a common goal: to start the conversation about healthy lifestyle habits and encourage people to be more active.
Thank you to the Port of Québec for opening its doors and supporting the community’s sustainable health with a fun, inclusive event that gets people moving together for their physical and mental health! We all need to take action to leave our children and grandchildren a healthier, more active world!
About the Port of Québec
The Port of Québec is strategically located 1100 km from the Atlantic Ocean, close to the Great Lakes market. It is the last deepwater port in the St. Lawrence corridor, with a depth of 15 metres. This unique position allows Canadian companies to achieve significant economies of scale in both import and export trade.
With links to more than 40 partner countries, the Port of Québec and its employees handle an average of over 26 million tonnes of goods every year, representing a commercial value of over $15 billion.
The Port is also recognized as the leading cruise port on the St. Lawrence; along with all its partners in Québec’s maritime industry, it contributes to $2 billion in economic spin-offs while supporting some 12,000 jobs nationwide.
The Québec Port Authority (QPA) is ranked 4th out of the 17 Canadian port authorities in terms of revenue. While it is economically powerful, it is also known for its contributions to the area’s urban and social fabric thanks to port spaces like the Agora, the Baie de Beauport, the Oasis, La Cale, the Discoglace, and the Village Nordik.
