THE PORT OF QUÉBEC EARNS THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF GREEN MARINE CERTIFICATION FOR THE SEVENTH YEAR IN A ROW
Québec City, June 11, 2025 – The Port of Québec is proud that it has once again achieved the highest standards of Green Marine, an internationally recognized environmental certification program for the maritime industry. This is the seventh year in a row the Port as earned the recognition, clearly demonstrating its dedicated, unwavering commitment to sustainable development and continuous improvement for environmental practices.
Green Marine rigorously evaluates the environmental performance of ports, terminals, shipowners, and shipyards based on criteria that are measurable, transparent, and constantly evolving. Reaching Level 5, the highest level of performance, is a sign of true environmental leadership. By achieving this level for all applicable indicators, the Port of Québec far exceeds its legal obligations and positions itself as a model of sustainable development in the North American maritime industry.
Earning this recognition for the seventh year in a row reflects the Port’s ongoing commitment to environmental excellence. It stood out particularly by achieving perfect scores for all applicable indicators:
- Air emissions – Greenhouse gases
- Waste management
- Spill prevention and stormwater management
- Community relations
- Environmental leadership
- Community impacts
- Aquatic ecosystem
This outstanding performance is the result of our continuing commitment and steadfast resolve to better integrate the port into its community, year after year. It demonstrates our determination to become a world-class port for sustainability and social and environmental innovation that harmonizes with communities through meaningful dialogue. We will keep boldly moving forward to make the Port of Québec an inspiring leader in sustainable development.
The detailed Green Marine framework provides a roadmap for all our participants, guiding them towards environmental excellence. The Port of Québec’s exceptional results are a testament to its ongoing commitment and continuous improvement. The many sustainable development initiatives their team has implemented are frequently cited as examples by port industry players beyond Québec and Canada.
Committed From The Start
As a founding member, the Port of Québec has been involve in Green Marine since the latter’s creation in 2007. Currently, it is the only port that has reached Level 5 for all applicable indicators seven years in a row. This achievement is all the more significant that in 2026, the Port will horst Green Marine’s GreenTech conference – a flagship event for the maritime industry in termes of innovation and environmental performance.
