This will allow compatible ships to shut down their auxiliary engines while calling at the Port, significantly reducing their pollutant emissions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\t\t\t<div class=\"item block-quote component-block-quote\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"block-quote__container container\">\n\t\t\t\t<blockquote class=\"block-quote__element\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"block-quote__text wysiwyg\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW159909001 BCX8\">This support from the Government of Qu\u00e9bec is making it possible for us to solidify a major project for the Port of Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s future. In addition to helping the Port meet rising expectations for sustainability, this upgrade will help support its development of the cruise market.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Wharf 101 will mark a first on the St. Lawrence, as it will become the first cargo-focused wharf to provide shore power connectivity.&nbsp;It will cut hundreds of hours of fossil fuel use each year. Over 10\u202fyears, the project is expected to prevent&nbsp;nearly 5,600\u202ftonnes of fossil fuel emissions while improving air quality and reducing noise pollution in the area.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>A greener corridor<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>This initiative will also give the Port of Qu\u00e9bec greater appeal to the cruise market. It is part of a broader effort to&nbsp;establish&nbsp;an increasingly green maritime corridor along the Canada\u2013New England route. It will be joining the cohort of ports that have been or will be electrified by 2030\u2014a cohort that includes the ports of Montr\u00e9al, Charlottetown, Halifax, Boston, and New\u202fYork, among others.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>The provincial government\u2019s financial support for hydroelectric shore power is meaningful not only for the Port of Qu\u00e9bec, but for the entire St.\u202fLawrence cruise corridor. As more ports invest in this type of infrastructure, the region is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for cruise lines and their passengers, who are seeking travel experiences supported by cleaner and more sustainable operations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Significant investments<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>The Wharf\u202f30 project is&nbsp;anticipated&nbsp;to cost a total of $23M. Half of the funding will come from the Government of Canada under the Green Shipping Corridor&nbsp;Program, which was announced in November\u202f2024. This will be supplemented by the $4M contribution announced by the Government of Qu\u00e9bec today, as well as up to $7.5M from the Port of Qu\u00e9bec itself. Shore power is expected to be available starting in the fall of 2028.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>The Wharf\u202f101 project,&nbsp;will require a total investment of $5.1M, half of which will be covered by the federal government. The Government of Qu\u00e9bec will provide another $1.1M and the Port of Qu\u00e9bec,&nbsp;nearly $1.5M. Shore power is expected to be available starting in the fall of 2028.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>About the Port of Qu\u00e9bec<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>The Port of Qu\u00e9bec is strategically&nbsp;located&nbsp;1,100\u202fkm from the Atlantic Ocean, close to the Great Lakes market. It is the last deepwater port in the St.\u202fLawrence corridor, with a depth of 15\u202fmetres. This unique position allows Canadian companies to achieve significant economies of scale in both import and export trade.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>With links to more than 40 partner countries, the Port of Qu\u00e9bec and its employees handle an average of over 26\u202fmillion tonnes of goods every year,&nbsp;representing&nbsp;a commercial value of over $15\u202fbillion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>The Port is also recognized as the leading cruise port on the St. Lawrence; along with all its partners in Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s maritime industry, it contributes to $2\u202fbillion in economic spin-offs while supporting some 12,000\u202fjobs nationwide.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>The Qu\u00e9bec Port Authority (QPA) is ranked 4<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;out of the 17 Canadian port authorities in terms of revenue.
