Québec, November 6, 2024<\/strong> — The Québec Port Authority (QPA) has announced that after 14 years at the organization’s helm, its President and CEO Mario Girard will become Delegate General of Québec in Tokyo on February 17, 2025. <\/p>\n

“It is with great emotion that I informed today the members of the Board of my decision to accept the position of Delegate General of Québec in Tokyo. I am profoundly grateful for the trust and support from all members of the Board these past years. I feel a deep connection and admiration for the committed, dedicated and extremely competent people that made up the Port of Québec staff. I am proud of what we have accomplished. It has been an immense privilege to hold this position and I cherish my years within the maritime community of Québec and elsewhere in the world,” said Mario Girard.<\/p>\n

“I salute Mario Girard’s exceptional leadership throughout all these years at the Port of Québec. I thank him for his tireless commitment to advancing this highly strategic asset, benefitting our Capitale Nationale and all of Québec and, for having worked to develop a unified and strategic maritime seaway. He has definitively contributed to transforming and modernizing the organization to raise it to a world class level with global appeal,” mentioned Chair of the Board, Olga Farman.<\/p>\n

Mr. Girard took office on January 1, 2011. Among the milestones of his leadership was the creation of a strong and dedicated team that transformed the organization. Together, they gave the Port a vision centered on sustainable development and community relations, making it a leader in these areas in North America and even the world. The Port also developed many recreational tourism areas that made the river more accessible to the community. Under his direction, the organization’s financial situation enjoyed a spectacular recovery. He also acted quickly and resolutely to instill the vision of a corridor along the Saint Lawrence, highlighting its huge advantages here and internationally, both environmentally and economically.<\/p>\n

Appointment Process<\/strong>
\nThe Board of Directors is currently implementing a rigorous and structured recruitment process to ensure a sound transition as the Port pursues its goal of Vision 2035.<\/p>\n

About the Port of Québec<\/strong>
\nThe Québec Port Authority, a non-profit organization, manages the port of Québec, which is strategically located to serve North America’s industrial and agricultural heartland. This Canadian hub for international trade for both the import and export of goods is the only port in the province of Québec with a fifteen-meter depth of water at low tide and a comprehensive intermodal infrastructure. The port facilities generate 10,000 jobs and about two billion dollars in economic activity.<\/p>\n

With its 2035 Vision, the Port of Québec aims to be recognized by citizens for the responsible management of its territory, respect for the environment and protection of biodiversity while positioning itself as a world leader in establishing sustainable supply chains for a more resilient economy.<\/p>\n
