Québec, May 15, 2024 —<\/strong> The Port of Québec is proud to unveil today its first exhibition titled “The Cargo’s Great Voyage,” which it will present inside a container on its docks during the summer season. This free exhibition provides a fun, interactive experience designed to acquaint visitors with the fascinating world of cargo transiting through the Port.<\/p>\n

Demystifying the Port and its Activities<\/strong>
\nA multidisciplinary team from the Port of Québec has undertaken this project to show the public the Port’s role in their daily life through an immersive outdoor exhibition installed on port territory. It showcases the journey of various goods from the point of origin, via their strategic passage through Québec City, to a final destination. It demonstrates how many of these products are processed and reintroduced into our daily consumption. The team designed the exhibition to demystify port operations by shedding light on their contribution to the local and national economy as well as to the daily lives of citizens living in the Québec City and Lévis regions.<\/p>\n

This project fits within the many spaces formed by the Espaces Portuaires de Québec which will be integrated into a mosaic of physical and virtual places. Activities, educational programs and field visits taking place on permanent and temporary sites and adapted to different audiences will give citizens and visitors the opportunity to discover, experiment, and better understand contemporary port activities.<\/p>\n

“As a port located in the heart of the city, we constantly seek to offer interesting, top-quality activities to neighbouring communities. The Cargo’s Great Voyage shows that a vast economy depends on the Port of Québec’s capacity to connect continents. No less than 80% of all the goods around us are moved by ship: liquid and solid bulk, manufactured products, telephones, medical equipment, food, and even components of buildings and roadwork. Visitors to this exhibition will discover this very information for themselves.”

The Cargo’s Great Voyage opens its doors on dock 22, near the Place des Canotiers, and will continue through August. The exhibition will then move for a limited time to the dock 21 sector, just a few steps away from the Agora du Port of Québec. The Cargo’s Great Voyage will be open every day of the week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., for an immersive and captivating experience.<\/p>\n

\nAbout the Port of Québec<\/strong>
\nThe Québec Port Authority, a non-profit organization, manages the Port of Québec which is strategically located to serve North America’s industrial and agricultural heartland. This Canadian hub for international trade for both the import and export of goods is the only port in the province of Québec with a fifteen-metre depth of water at low tide and a comprehensive intermodal infrastructure. The Port facilities generate 10,000 jobs and about two billion dollars in economic activity each year.<\/p>\n
