Québec City, September 7, 2022<\/strong> – The Port of Québec was pleased to welcome this morning Mr. Édouard Philippe, Mayor of Le Havre and President of AIVP (Association Internationale Villes et Ports) – the Worldwide Network of Port Cities, and Mr. Stéphane Raison, CEO and Chairman of the management board of HAROPA PORT – the major Seine Axis River and seaport authority.<\/p>\n

The Port of Québec is a proud member of AIVP, present in more than 50 countries, whose mission is to improve relations between cities and ports by promoting dialogue and cooperation among all stakeholders, and by giving citizens a central role in the actions taken.<\/p>\n

While in Québec City, the AIVP delegation had the opportunity to visit the port facilities, including the many quality recreation sites for citizens such as the Beauport Bay, the harbour bath, the Festibière pub-terrace and Anse Brown. Later in the day, Mr. Philippe and Mr. Raison participated in a panel discussion on the collaboration between the three ports in the Seine Axis over the past ten years, the many efforts undertaken with regard to energy transition, as well as the development of the international cruise market on the Seine.<\/p>\n

“It was truly a pleasure to welcome this morning at the Port of Québec, Mr. Édouard Philippe, Mayor of Le Havre, President of AIVP and former Prime Minister of France, as well as Mr. Stéphane Raison, CEO and Chairman of the management board of HAROPA PORT. After a tour of our recreation sites, they spoke to the St. Lawrence maritime community about the collaborative work of the three Seine ports in ensuring efficient and more sustainable use of the fluvial corridor to the great benefit of users and communities along the river. A very inspiring discussion. The Port of Québec intends to continue to draw inspiration from the best practices worldwide, such as those implemented on the Seine with neighbouring communities. The many examples mentioned by the French delegation will enrich our Vision 2035 plan and our 2023-2025 strategic plan,” explained Mario Girard, President and CEO of the Port of Québec and Vice President of AIVP. <\/p>\n

\nThe Port of Québec is among Canada’s five largest ports in terms of tonnage handled and economic spinoffs. It is strategically located to serve North America’s industrial and agricultural heartland. Each year, cargo ships from or to some fifty countries call at the Port of Québec to connect the Great Lakes and Midwestern U.S. markets to the rest of the world. Twenty percent of its port territory, which extends from Beauport to the south shore, is dedicated to recreation and tourism.
