Québec City, May 24, 2022 <\/strong>– In the presence of Deputy Premier, Minister of Public Security and Minister Responsible for the Capitale-Nationale Region Geneviève Guilbault, and the Minister for Transport, Minister Responsible for the Metropolis and the Montreal Region Chantal Rouleau, the Port of Québec’s President and CEO Mario Girard took part in today's announcement that the Québec Port Authority (QPA) is set to receive nearly $10.8 million in funding from Ministère des Transports du Québec to help restore strategic port infrastructure in the port area.<\/p>\n

This major financial contribution to a total of nearly $35 million in work will allow the QPA to pursue 14 projects to upgrade and repair its infrastructure in the Anse au Foulon, Estuary, and Beauport sectors. <\/p>\n

“This investment is in line with the objective shared by the Port of Québec and the Quebec government to leverage the exceptional strategic location of the St. Lawrence River as a powerful driver of economic, social, and environmental development. The Port of Québec is an essential link in the supply chain for many goods. So we need modern and competitive infrastructure. I would like to warmly thank the Quebec government for its confidence in us and its commitment to our port infrastructure, which underlines its essential nature and takes us a step further in making the St. Lawrence River a major economic corridor and economic driver in Quebec,” said Mario Girard.<\/p>\n

14 Infrastructure Restoration Projects Underway<\/strong>
\nThe work, with projects begun in 2021 and 2022, includes the rehabilitation of more than 10 wharves primarily located in the Anse au Foulon, Estuary, and Beauport sectors. Another project in the Anse au Foulon sector will see upgrades to electrical supply infrastructure to maximize storage space for goods. The work will make it possible to carry out essential repairs and also make adjustments aimed at optimizing the Port of Québec’s operational efficiency.<\/p>\n

“With this contribution, the Quebec government is making a real difference in the restoration of the port’s infrastructure. The QPA wouldn’t be able to accomplish nearly as much without this injection of funds. It’s yet another demonstration of the government’s support for the Québec port community,” said Mario Girard.<\/p>\n
