{"id":2845,"date":"2024-06-26T08:03:51","date_gmt":"2024-06-26T12:03:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.portquebec.ca\/?page_id=2845"},"modified":"2025-09-12T10:13:06","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T14:13:06","slug":"climatic-changes","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.portquebec.ca\/en\/environment\/climatic-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"Decarbonization at the Port of Qu\u00e9bec"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<p class=\"is-style-text-large\">Quebec Port Authority (QPA) is committed to planning and implementing actions to achieve carbon neutrality for its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\t<div class=\"item component-text-full-width\">\n\t\t<div class=\"container container--large\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"block-text-full-width\">\n\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"h4 block-text-full-width__title\">Decarbonization objectives at the Port of Qu\u00e9bec<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"block-text-full-width__grid\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The QPA has set targets to reduce Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gases (GHGs) by 2030 and 2035 (see the<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.portquebec.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/PAESGDD_Document_EN.pdf\">Sustainable Development Action Plan<\/a> for more details on these objectives). It is a voluntary initiative that encourages businesses to develop and implement credible and effective transition plans to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Climate resilience<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Climate change is expected to have a wide variety of effects, from rising sea levels to increased storm surges, changing ice conditions, and more frequent freeze-thaw cycles.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Knowing that these changes are likely to affect ships and port infrastructures, the Port of Qu\u00e9bec is analyzing the risks and opportunities in order to deploy a climate resilience plan. Its approach is based on the 11 recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph js-anim js-anim-scroll-top\"  ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>The Port of Qu\u00e9bec is also pursuing efforts to improve <a href=\"https:\/\/www.portquebec.ca\/en\/environment\/air-quality\/\">air quality<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Quebec Port Authority (QPA) is committed to planning and implementing actions to achieve carbon neutrality for its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050.
