Quebec Port Authority (QPA) is committed to planning and implementing actions to achieve carbon neutrality for its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\t

Decarbonization objectives at the Port of Qu\u00e9bec<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The QPA has set targets to reduce Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gases (GHGs) by 2030 and 2035 (see the<\/span>\u00a0Sustainable Development Action Plan<\/a> for more details on these objectives). With this plan, the QPA intends to implement a series of measures to achieve the targets presented below.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Since 2021, the QPA has also been offsetting its Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by purchasing emission units on the regulated market.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\t

The ports of Qu\u00e9bec, Montr\u00e9al, and Trois-Rivi\u00e8res join the Net-Zero Challenge<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

In 2023, the ports of Qu\u00e9bec, Montr\u00e9al, and Trois-Rivi\u00e8res announced their joint participation in the <\/a>Net-Zero Challenge<\/a>, demonstrating the maritime industry\u2019s commitment to decarbonizing the St. Lawrence corridor.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

The Net-Zero Challenge was launched in 2022 by Canada\u2019s Minister of the Environment and Climate Change. It is a voluntary initiative that encourages businesses to develop and implement credible and effective transition plans to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Climate resilience<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n
\n

Climate change is expected to have a wide variety of effects, from rising sea levels to increased storm surges, changing ice conditions, and more frequent freeze-thaw cycles.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

Knowing that these changes are likely to affect ships and port infrastructures, the Port of Qu\u00e9bec is analyzing the risks and opportunities in order to deploy a climate resilience plan. Its approach is based on the 11 recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n
