One of the pillars of the Port of Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s 2035 Vision<\/a><\/a> is the desire to become a reference in community engagement. To that end, the Port has completed a number of projects with and for neighbouring communities in recent years.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Through these projects, the Port is hoping to optimize the development of its property and improve access to the river for residents and visitors alike. Given its location in the heart of the city, the QPA is also looking to enhance community spaces while allowing people to learn about the Port and its activities. L\u2019Oasis port swimming area<\/h2>\n\n
\n

The Port of Qu\u00e9bec opened L\u2019Oasis\u2014the first harbour bath in North America\u2014in the summer of 2022. The no-cost swimming area is located in the Louise Basin, near the Espace Quatre Cents. It was developed in partnership with the<\/span> Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Gens de Baignade<\/a> and the Port of Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s<\/span> Village Nordik<\/a>.<\/p>\n

L\u2019Oasis du Port de Qu\u00e9bec is more than just a swimming area; it offers residents and visitors plenty of things to do in the summer. There\u2019s a bar and restaurant, a patio overlooking the marina, and a relaxation area right on the dock. There are also facilities for swimmers, including changing rooms, lockers, and outdoor showers. The site boasts the equivalent of an Olympic-size swimming pool, with five 50-metre lanes, as well as a free-swim area.<\/span><\/p>\n

La Cale summer patio<\/h2>\n\n
\n

In June\u00a02023, the Port of Qu\u00e9bec opened its new summer patio: La Cale du Port de Qu\u00e9bec. Bordered by the river, the<\/span> Agora<\/a>, and the<\/span> Caf\u00e9 du Monde<\/a>, La Cale is a family-friendly place where everyone is welcome to sit back and cool off with their feet in the water.<\/span><\/p>\n

Visitors can bring their own food or take advantage of the food truck operated by the<\/span> La Cage sports bar chain<\/a>, which has designed an exclusive menu for La Cale. As for refreshments, a rum bar offers the opportunity to discover different varieties and flavours of rum from around the world. Finally, the site is full of comfortable seating areas, shallow pools, washrooms, and a water bottle station. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Port consulted citizens through its<\/span> Je Participe<\/a> platform before developing the site. This allowed it to gather people\u2019s suggestions for improving the area and learn about the types of amenities they would like. Representatives from the Vieux-Qu\u00e9bec, Cap-Blanc, and Colline Parlementaire neighbourhoods and the Community Relations Committee were also consulted.<\/span><\/p>\n

La Cale is part of the Port\u2019s commitment to using its public spaces to create opportunities for encounters and dialogue with the community. As such, it fits into a broader vision to enhance the Port\u2019s sites in the Louise Basin and Pointe-\u00e0-Carcy sector. This sector also includes the Oasis and its port swimming area, as well as the Agora.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cargo\u2019s Great Voyage<\/h2>\n\n
\n

In the spring of 2024, the Port of Qu\u00e9bec launched its very first exhibition, The Cargo\u2019s Great Voyage. This free activity was held over the summer in a container on one of the Port\u2019s wharves. It\u2019s a fun interactive experience that introduces visitors to the fascinating stories of<\/span> the goods that pass through the Port<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The exhibition maps out the journey of certain goods from their source to their final destination, including their strategic stops in Qu\u00e9bec City. It shows just how many of the products are processed into things we use every day.<\/span><\/p>\n

The exhibition was designed to shed light on port operations while highlighting their contribution to the local and national economy, as well as to the everyday lives of the citizens of the Qu\u00e9bec City and L\u00e9vis region.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cargo\u2019s Great Voyage was open at Wharf\u00a022, near the Place des Canotiers, until late August. From there, it moved to the Wharf\u00a021 area, just a few steps from the Agora, for a limited time. The Cargo\u2019s Great Voyage is open 7\u00a0days a week, from 8\u00a0a.m. to 8\u00a0p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n\n

Flot educational program<\/h2>\n\n
\n

In the summer of 2024, the Port of Qu\u00e9bec launched Flot, an immersive, tailor-made education program. It invites children to use their keen sense of observation to learn about the rich biodiversity in the Baie de Beauport while solving riddles to free the river from its curse.<\/span><\/p>\n

Offered to grade\u00a05 classes in La Cit\u00e9-Limoilou public schools, the Flot program includes an educational kit with classroom activities, as well as an exclusive program at the Baie de Beauport. With this program, the Port hopes to make the Baie de Beauport more accessible to school classes, help visitors discover the richness of its sites, and foster a sense of belonging to the river and the Port.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Flot project is the fruit of a collaboration with the<\/span> Baie de Beauport<\/a>, D\u00e9fi-\u00c9vasion<\/a>, Camps Odyss\u00e9e<\/a>, and the <\/span> Groupe d\u2019\u00e9ducation et d\u2019\u00e9cosurveillance de l\u2019eau<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n\n
