Focus on the environment
The Québec Port Authority takes respect for and protection of the environment very seriously. That is why the QPA is a member of Green Marine, an ambitious environmental program for the Canadian and American marine industry. It is a voluntary program with the following primary objectives:
- Improve the marine industry’s environmental performance through a continuous improvement process
- Build strong relationships with seaway stakeholders
- Heighten understanding of the marine industry’s activities and environmental benefits
Several environmental projects have been undertaken by the Port of Québec, such as raising of the Beauport Bay berm, rockfill work on the banks and the soil treatment zone for hydrocarbon decontamination, where more than 66,500 metric tonnes of soil have been treated since the project was implemented in 2008. That soil can then be recycled as backfill.
These initiatives have been undertaken to protect the environment, naturally, but also to strengthen the port-city relationship.
