MARIO GIRARD ELECTED TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE WORLDWIDE NETWORK OF PORT CITIES (AIVP)
Québec, May 28, 2015 – At the annual general meeting of the Worldwide Network of Port Cities (AIVP) held in Dublin, Ireland, Mario Girard, President and CEO of the Québec Port Authority, was elected to AIVP’s board of directors as a representative of the college of port authorities, in addition to being appointed one of the international organization’s five vice-presidents.
Mr. Girard is the very first North American to be named a vice-president of the board of directors of the organization, which brings together more than 2,000 stakeholders from 50 countries. AIVP’s board of directors has 33 members within three colleges: port authorities, local authorities and professionals.
“I am pleased and proud to join the board of directors of AIVP, an exceptional organization with which I have been involved for four years and whose work includes the sustainable and productive development of city-port relations. Contributing to its activities and development will give the Port of Québec special access to intelligence from the global community on city-port relations, while allowing it to share its own achievements and experiences,” said Mr. Girard.
AIVP is made up of a network of 2,000 stakeholders from over 50 countries and is present on five continents. AIVP is the only international organization that brings together all the public and private actors involved in port city development. For 25 years, AIVP has had the privilege of bearing witness to the changes underway in cities and ports around the world. It helps its members implement new strategies that enable them to better deal with changes affecting the economic, social and environmental development of port cities: city-port integration, the global reorganization of economic routes, the challenge of societal integration, climate change, energy transition, and the development of the cruise industry.
