GIVING VOICE TO CITIZENS: THE PORT OF QUÉBEC LAUNCHES THE JE PARTICIPE PLATFORM

07/20/2022

Québec City, July 20, 2022 – Today, the Port of Québec is launching the community engagement platform Je participe and invites the community and partners to get involved in the Port's projects. The Port is using this platform to increase exchanges and benefit from the citizens’ expertise as users of ports services, public spaces, and territory. This is all part of a continuous active approach to maintain healthy city-port relations.

"As I mentioned at June’s annual public meeting, we must articulate the Port’s future projects through our relationships with our neighbours, city and partners. This platform is a tool that will encourage greater participation from the population. For citizens, it will be easier to communicate with us, send us their ideas, improve current and future projects, and contribute to their realization," explains Mario Girard, President and CEO of the Québec Port Authority.

By creating this community engagement platform, the Port will rely on a constructive dialogue based on respect, transparency, and credibility to pursue the development of a healthy and sustainable cohabitation with the population.

"People will find on the platform information and all the necessary documentation to fully understand the projects. They will then be asked to give their opinion on the projects and share their suggestions and recommendations with us. For example, depending on the project, they may be invited to complete a survey, place an idea in a suggestion box or submit a brief. Once we have analyzed the comments, we will follow up with them regarding their input and will send them a final project report," explains Éloïse Richard-Choquette, Director of Community Relations at the Port of Québec.

This action is directly linked to the Port of Québec's new strategic plan, which we will present in the fall. In addition to the platform, coffee talks allowing for close exchanges with citizens, as well as a newsletter on the Port's activities will also be launched in the near future.

In closing, we should note that the Je participe platform was developed in collaboration with the members of the Community Relations Committee, which brings together representatives of the community, including several citizens living near the Port.

"I would like to thank the people of Québec City who have taken and will take the time to communicate with us to build a positive dialogue between the Port and the community. The community engagement platform is a tool that I hope will foster this essential discourse that we want to maintain in the coming years," concluded Mario Girard.
